![]() ![]() Standing in line for tickets, we exchanged “that look” with an Asian American mother and her young daughter, but this time, more than a simple acknowledgment of shared otherness it felt something akin to pride. A week later, our family returned stateside and saw the movie at our local theater in western Massachusetts. A South Korean friend shared this puzzled observation regarding the massive attention the movie was receiving, particularly from Asian American audiences. ![]() “We see representations of rich, shallow, beautiful Asian people all the time, I don’t get why this is such a big deal.” We were in Seoul when Crazy Rich Asians hit the theaters in summer 2018. ![]()
